No information about possible side-effects before MRI

Hello, my son had an MRI scan with contrast 2 years ago. On the same day he had adverse reaction to the contrast which was probably overdosed and affected his brain. He is now 2.9 years old and not developing well. Could you please advise if we could relate his condition to the contrast he had and he stopped developing normally after this scan and we were not advised of possible side effects/ damage to the brain.

Thank you for contacting us.

It sounds like a possible negligence claim (overdosed?) but whether or not there is a causal link and whether you can prove it, is not something we could comment on.

Certainly, if there are known risks and side-effects you weren’t told about at the time, then that will matter. You could argue that you wouldn’t have agreed to the scan had you known of those risks. But it still involves proving that your son suffered harm which was caused by the procedure. If there was an overdose, then the matter of consent seems irrelevant.
